Sanjeeb Kakoty did his MA in history from NEHU and went on to do his PhD by adopting technology and social formation to understand and explain historical change. He was a Post Doctoral fellow at CENISEAS and has also done his MMP from IIM Ahmedabad.
Currently working as a faculty member at IIM-Shillong he is also a guest faculty at IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore. His areas of interest apart from history Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, Communications and Governance is achieving desirable change through targeted social interventions. He has also worked as a lecturer in St. Anthony’s College, Christ King College and St. Edmunds College, Shillong . He has a number of start ups to his credit and was also associated with the founding of the North East Data Bank, the first news agency of the region founded in 1989, for supplying well researched news, features and documentaries for the print and electronic media of the country and abroad.
A writer, an academician and a documentary film maker, his latest book entitled Science, Technology and Social Formation in Medieval Assam, has recently been published by Cambridge University Press. His other books include Tawang :The Abode of Prayers and Technology, Production and Social Formation in the Evolution of the Ahom State, as well as a number of edited volume.
He is a member of the World Business School Council for Sustainable Development and was one of the authors that wrote the report on Management Education for the Future that was presented at the Rio Earth conference. He was also a member of the Working Group of The Centre of North East Studies, Academy of Third World Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and the International Consultant of Indian Media Markets to Hamburg Media School, Germany. He has also contributed in formulation of the Look East Policy for the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce for studying the Potential and Problems for trade between North East India and South East Asia. He is also a member of the advisory board of the Kasturba Gandhi National memorial Trust and mentor to a number of social and business enterprises in the region.
